Welcome

Running for over two decades now, Mr. Hetfield's 2026 Rock and Roll Summer Camp in Lewes, Delaware begins on July 27, 2026 and continues through August 7, 2026. The camp is open to aspiring rock and roll musicians from ages 8 to 16. Mr. Hetfield's Rock and Roll Summer Camp is run by director Walt Hetfield. Mr. Hetfield has been the music teacher at Rehoboth Elementary School for the past thirty-three years. He is also an active professional musician.

This year, the camp will take place at The Listening Booth in Lewes, DE. The camp is open to most instruments and vocalists. One of the primary goals of the camp is to take students who have been taking private or school band lessons on various instruments and putting them into an ensemble-playing situation. Mr. Hetfield's Rock and Roll summer camp is a place for them to meet and play with other young musicians.

There is no formal audition, but campers need to have a rudimentary knowledge of their instrument. All interested guitarists should know basic chords (i.e. G, C , D , E, A major and minor) and a scale pattern or two. Drummers should have some familiarity with a drum set, etc. Keyboard players should be at least graduated to level two. Saxes and trumpets and other wind instruments are always welcome.

It was amazing. I got to meet lots of new friends a best, best friend and sing every day. I had stage fright at first, but everyone helps you and I can't wait to do it again.”
