Day 1 - Regular Session
Rehoboth Elementary School, July 28, 2003

The day started off with campers and parents coming in and and making final payment. I had the the Jimi Hendrix at Monterey DVD playing while people were coming in and filling out their questioneers. We got to know each other a little bit, names and tastes in music.

Once again boy bands and Brittany Spears were hig on the do not like list. I was suprised at the number of campers that didn't like rap. but, I guess you're all aspiring "real" musicians. I can never condemn an entire style - there are elements of hip-hop that I find interesting and entertaining. Still, you like what you like.....

We started with a one chord jam (G) and moved on to Wild Thing. The second group worked on the Ramones Blitzkrieg Bop. Zac Mayfield showed me that he has gotten some chops on the drums - we have a good number of drummers and percussionists this year.

In fact, I think we have a good mix of players - just the right amount on each instrument at various skill levels. There is an even number of girls and boys, which is great.

We finished the day with Wipe Out by the Surfaris - we'll start on that one tomorrow. Tuesday will be a play all day affair. I plan to work on: Hello I Love You, Satisfaction, get started on Time of the Season by the Zombies and Espionage by Green Day. Iam up for other suggestions of course - but that is the plan. We may do some more surf tunes and maybe a horn tune - we're going to keep things moving. We want to add another song like Wild Thing for the Level I players. We were thinking of Hang On Sloopy possibly.
